In Awe! Ralph Rucci - The American Haute Couture

I am currently working on a design project where I am allowed to do anything I want........ and for some mysterious unknown reasons, I am set on the idea of incorporating fabrics that are screen-printed with Chinese watercolor paintings into my shoe collection. It will be high fashion, and sculptural.

The idea led me to Ralph Rucci because he did something similar in 2006, and I am in awe! As an American fashion designer and an artist, he has done wonders with his abilities. He was one of the only American fashion designers (other than Mainbocher) that got invited to show in Paris by the French Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, and the ONLY living American designer who made clothes that could be considered Haute Couture. It is an honor that is almost unfathomable. Nowadays, he operates under Chado Ralph Rucci, and shows in NYFW every season (see his collections here).

For his S/S 2006 Haute Couture collection, he embroidered his favorite artist - Cy Twombly's Quattro Stagioni onto 4 dresses, and created an intense visual experience for art AND fashion lovers. This idea of combining fine art with fashion is amazing because it elevates fashion as art, and brings art to more people. I want to do that with my shoes and I am extremely excited to work on it.

More to come in a few weeks!
